During this Photoshop educaiton you will learn how to use Adobe Photoshop, the program of choice of professional image editors worldwide. With Photoshop you can edit photos, images, and create photo collages in which the elements that are cut out blend well together. You learn how to use Photoshop professionally and creatively.

You use Photoshop to correct images too: they can become sharper for instance, or you can add blurriness for special effects like bokeh. The colours can be adjusted, missing elements can be restored and repaired. Photoshop is of course frequently used for media in which models should be enhanced: wrinkles and pimples can be removed, waists can be adjusted and colours can be changed or fine-tuned.

A commonly asked question is: why are masks not part of this education? Well: all techniques that you need for masks are addressed, masks are just another method to apply these techniques. Does this mean not using masks is better? Not at all! But the education focuses on the tools, settings, and techniques and are independent from working with or without masks. Masks only add another functionality for these very same tools, settings, and techniques. Learn how to use masks during the Photoshop Masks Course. You'll meet familiar topics, you'll see.

New This education can be done at your own pace independently.
You will receive extensive, digital books and can count on homework, homework corrections, your tests and exam, and extra help in between classes via email. You can even call if you need more help and get 10 minutes of video training per lesson, for free.

Groups

Regular video training allows students to train together via video. This is similar to training in a classroom, but it's online.

This type of training is perfect if you want to attend a course from a different country, too.

This is usually the best way to train since you learn from other students' questions, but it is possible that you end up in class alone: we don't cancel classes since we don't like minimum attendance requirements. Every student is welcome if they want to train.

We set up a schedule which depends on availability and always combine two lessons. If your course contains an uneven number of lessons, one of them will be a single lesson. Simple.

Software installation tips
About Adobe software

Needed during class

  • A notebook and pen
  • Your laptop (if you don't have one you can use one of our computers)
  • If you bring your laptop the software should be installed
  • Practising material: when you enroll specify whether or not you use your own laptop so you can install practising material in advance.

Please note the software for your training should be installed before class, there is no time to install it during class and this would mean you wouldn't be able to do the exercises.

Needed at home/work

  • If software is needed during your education you can buy it or download a trial.
  • A computer (preferably desktop).
  • Optional: a Wacom tablet to design more freely. Attention: for some Wacom functions you really need the legal Adobe software.

This education includes

  • Course fees
  • Syllabus
  • Tests and exam
  • Extra practise time to prepare for your test (two months max)
  • Digital or printed books with exercises, homework and a recap of what was addressed
  • Extra assignments and tools so you can learn even more
  • Extra telephone and email support in between lessons
  • Homework
  • Personal homework correction
  • Two weeks aftercare

And the software?

You take care of the software yourself, as Adobe Preferred Partner we can only sell multi licenses and seats to companies.
You either buy the software or install a trial.

If you already own Adobe software there is no need to purchase the subscription based Cloud applications. The following suites are still perfectly usable:

Creative Suite CS4 through CS6

Prior knowledge & experience

You don't need to know anything about Photoshop to attend this education. You will learn it all from scratch. You don't have to know any other Adobe software either, this education is perfect since you will learn it all step by step.

Handy computer skills

It is a good idea to be handy when you use your computer. This means you can install programs (you will have to install software most times) and you can organise, monitor and manage your folders and files.

The course is for everyone who needs to work independently and creatively and is responsible for good design. We assume a professional and/or creative intent from our students but welcome amateurs and non-professionals as well. Feel free to join!

Bedankt jongens!
Wouter S.

Running back

I went to other schools for Photoshop and CAD but boy I am running back to this school to learn Dreamweaver and Flash. I have never seen better quality training.
Richard B.

Portfolio

Hoe alles kan lopen he.

Human Being

I enjoyed the enthusiasm of my teacher and her stunning sense of humor. I have to admit it took me a while to get used to it since it is quite dry at times but she is refreshing and heart warming and a real Human Being. Even though I can't really afford the second course I am going to attend it simply because I feel I am becoming a better and more creative person because of this fantastic training.
Alois B.

Stump

After a few lessons I noticed there was always an answer to the questions. I tried to stump her but could not do it. Gave up! Had fun!
Gary R.

Verslaafd

Vraagje: kan ik Photoshop Professional apart volgen via 'its a deal'?
Marijke de J.

Makkelijker

M. K. (Holland)

Reactie LearningTrain

Ja, dat kan. In opdracht kan extra lesmateriaal worden gemaakt. Neem even contact op.

Halverwege

Awed

My teacher masters the art of making the difficult seem so obvious. Even after using it for years without any training before going to this school I never would have guessed Photoshop could be so easy to use and understand. I am in awe! Respect, miss.
D. M.

Grandmaster

Carola M.

Attended your course in English. Thanks people, great job, great material. Got me some awsome skills now!

What is Adobe Photoshop

Photoshop is an Adobe Systems application that is primarily used to create images for print and multimedia. It is the application of choice of most professional image editors.

The core functions

Photoshop allows you to edit photographic images such as images from a digital camera or internet. Use Photoshop to adjust colours, isolate elements, remove backgrounds and much more until your images and photo collages are perfect for print and digital media.

Is Photoshop difficult?

No, Photoshop is not difficult although this is different for each student. If you don't have any experience with any of the Adobe applications you may need a bit more time getting the hang of it.

Practical lessons to learn it all

You will see during the first class that everything is well explained. With our more targeted and personal approach (even though you're in a group) there is no doubt you will learn it all!

Back to questions

Do I have to be a photographer?

Many LearningTrain students are photographers, yes. But you don't have to be a photographer to attend Photoshop or to use Photoshop. Not at all!

Use your own images

During the courses you can use your own photographs but you can use images from stock sites just as well. Your courses include images to work with to do the exercises and to create free artwork.

So many options

You edit photos with Photoshop. And this is a very short description: there is so much you can do with it that it's difficult to catch this into a few words. Find a few core functions below.

Isolate elements: remove backgrounds

With 'isolation' one usually means an element is going to be cut out. This can be an animal, a person or something else. Its background is removed so it can be used in an other photo to create a photo collage.

Corrections

Photo corrections are incredibly useful. With good corrections you can tweak the colours, adjust the tone and even tint of elements. You can remove colour casts and adjust the tonal values.

Photo restaurations

You can restore images in Photoshop and do this perfectly. Old, damaged photos can be scanned and restored, even photos that were taken under poor conditions or that contain unwanted elements can be fully restored so they can be well used in all your designs.

Editing holiday pictures

You may come home finding some or your precious photos are not as good as you thought they would look. Lighting can be off, colours can be wrong. You can edit all images taken with your digital camera in Photoshop. But you can even scan your classic photos, or their negatives, and edit them in Photoshop.

Create images for InDesign

if an image is going to be used in InDesign it is best to prepare it for this yourself: this way you have everything under control and don't depend on third parties to do this. You need Photoshop for this.

Images for websites & multimedia

Photoshop is a real star in creating images for websites, news letters and multimedia. You can for instance create banners for websites, buttons and everything you need for the total design.

Cropping and resizing

An image is usually not in the correct size for the job. They need to be cropped or resized to get the most out of them and to use them the right way. This is all something you do in Photoshop.

The correct resolution

Images are not always in the correct resolution. This means an image may not have to right resolution for the job, it may for instance not be correct for print with different printing techniques. Use Photoshop to adjust resolution and make them perfect for your design goal.

Designing websites

You can design websites in Photoshop. To be honest: Illustrator is much handier for this. But the photos, the images you will use on the websites will really have to be edited in Photoshop. Saving for all sorts of media is a great thing to do in Photoshop, it will make your life much easier.

Illustrator: vectors

Resolution independent artwork is artwork that can be scaled without quality loss. This means you can design something really small but still print it in a huge size without losing any of the quality and detail. In Illustrator you create such resolution independent artwork. Artwork you create during an Illustrator course can be scaled without becoming blotty and blorry, as is the case when you make something bigger in Photoshop

Photoshop: pixels

In Photoshop you usually don't use vectors but pixels: the smallest colour units that images are made of. Photos are very sensitive to scaling and transforming. This means that there are less things you can do in Photoshop where resizing is concerned and that you have to design at a specific size. But in Illustrator you can't edit images. You can only edit images, photos, in Photoshop and other image editing software.

Do you know who this is?

This is Thomas Knoll, de developer of Photoshop. He is the man who, with his brother, 'invented' Photoshop back in 1988. In those days it was not an Adobe application, on the contrary. The brothers really had to drag their software all over the place to find an investor and they tried Adobe which was not interested in it at all at first.

Ever since those early days Photoshop became better and better. Learn all you really need  during the Photoshop course that is best for you. Discover all you need to use Photoshop professionally, or even if you use it just for fun.

That depends on the design

If you create layouts, designs, for publications that require a lot of pages, as is the case with magazines and brochures, you're much better off with InDesign, yes. InDesign is used to layout books too. If you have to combine a lot of images with text and add footers, headers and page numbers for instance InDesign is really the program you should use. In InDesign you will have a wealth of options for typography, too.

But...

Photoshop is terrific to create 1-page designs such as posters. I have to admit Illustrator is even handier for this though. In Illustrator you can so easily adjust colours and elements, it's easy to add illustrations and images and it's much better with text. What's more: Illustrator has more options for text. But still, Illustrator is less handy to create multi page layouts, just like Photoshop.

Back to questions

Photoshop & Illustrator

You will most often combine Photoshop with Illustrator. Creating sharp vector illustrations can not really be done in Photoshop since it is too time consuming and limited.

In Illustrator, you can quickly create ayouts for flyers, posters and other designs. What's more: in Illustrator your designs are perfectly scalable without quality loss.

The combination of Illustrator and Photoshop is fantastic: Photoshop allows you to make your designs softer, Illustrator allows you to create stunning mood boards with special elements in them. Combine these two for the most fantastic results.

Learn Illustrator.

TIP It is usually a clever move to know both Illustrator and Photoshop. Once you know both, you won't want to go back.

Photoshop & Indesign

You place images in InDesign: photographic material. These images can not be edited in InDesign though, so Photoshop and InDesign are almost always combined. In InDesign, you create the perfect layouts for magazines, brochures and books. The images you use can be edited and prepared in Photoshop to have all the control you need.

As a graphic designer with only InDesign skills you will soon find yourself wanting some Photoshop knowledge, if only to scale images properly and create good cut-outs. Or even to isolate elements. Combine Photoshop with InDesign for the best results.

TIP Learn InDesign to combine your images and other artwork in beautiful layouts.

Learn InDesign!

Photoshop & webdesign

Websites, icons and buttons are very often created in Illustrator, see the buttons above.

But still: without Photoshop webdesign will become a bit more tricky. You will need Photoshop to crop images, to create collages or even to retouch images from your clients. Most webdesigners can't perform properly without Photoshop.

More about webdesign.

Photoshop & Animate

You will most definitely need Photoshop during your Flash course. You can use Photoshop to create backgrounds and even images that you can animate in Flash.

You can use Photoshop to save them in the best possible format, too. This will make the animations easier to load, even though of course Flash also has features to keep the size down, doing the necessary pre work in Photoshop will save you time and will make your graphics easier to implement.
